That guy sure could dance!!

The man could dance. The man could sing. The man changed the way music videos were made. He was an icon, a star and probably misunderstood. This is one of the videos I remember most.

Michael Jackson dead at age 50

This afternoon I heard the news that Michael Jackson was dead. I didn’t believe it at first but then I saw it on Twitter and the news. It was true. I was shocked and stunned. I grew up with Michael Jackson. He was a phenomenon in music. Hit after hit song. I remember seeing Thriller for the first time standing in a mall in Richardson Texas, watching it with dozens of other people staring at TV’s as the stores played his video for the first time. I also attended the Victory Tour concert in Dallas in 1984. It’s ironic that I am in the same city when I hear of his death.

Rest in peace Michael and thank you for the music.

Futurama is coming back in 2010

Futurama

I just came across the news that Futurama will be returning on Comedy Central. Good news for all Futurama fans. Maybe Fox will regret that they ever cancelled the series. You can read the article about it here.

Gaming Steve forum is down

For those that frequent the Gaming Steve forum, we know that it’s down today with an error. I’ve notified Steve by email but he is attending E3 and not sure if he’ll be able to fix it. It appears to be a server code problem. I’ll keep you updated here and  you can post temporarily on Oviraptor’s site if you like.

Playing Spore again

spore tribe

I’ve started playing Spore again in the last few days. Some new creations using Cute and Creepy plus I attempted a tribe game on hard. Let’s just say I died over and over and over. I installed the game on my laptop and forgot to transfer the game files so it thinks I’m new and it telling me I get achievements again. I couldn’t jump to tribe stage without playing cell and creature stage first so it was rather annoying. Check out my new creations if you like: My Spore Page.

I love my Kindle

Kindle 2

Over a year ago I admired a cool gadget called a Kindle from Amazon. I even blogged about it because I thought it was a cool idea. At the end of last year one of my friends bought one and showed it to me. Then a family member got one for Christmas. I recently caved and finally bought a Kindle (version 2) from Amazon. The price was high but after using it for a couple of months, I feel I made a good purchase. As an added bonus, I found out my phone charger is the same for the Kindle so I only have to pack one charger. I don’t need to charge it much, the battery holds for weeks.

The cost of Kindle books are much lower than paper books. I can put about a 1,500 books on the one device, not that I ever need that many. It fits in my purse and is so easy to pull out and read on an airplane or in the car. I’ve now finished 3 books since owning it, much more reading than I have done in the past. It takes a few minutes to download books, you can do it through the web on Amazon or through the whispernet service on the Kindle itself. You can also get some newspapers, magazines and blogs delivered daily.

Kindle DX

Amazon is now releasing the Kindle DX, a larger version for $150 more than the regular. It holds 3,500 books, has a bigger screen and rotates to read wider articles. I continue to learn new things about this device and it really amazes me. If you’ve been thinking about it, check it out. If you have questions, let me know.

Robot Chicken and Spore.. say what?

Robot Spore

A mystery about what Robot Chicken and the game of Spore have in common was finally revealed today. It seems that the Robot Chicken guys are Spore fans and helped write some adventures for the new expansion pack called Spore Galactic Adventures. These will be available for download on June 23rd. Kudos to Sporeprograms for finding the press release (after the jump). I got GA pre-ordered now. Sounds exciting.

FTD.com is a flowery FAIL

Over a year ago I wrote a blog post about flowers that never got delivered for a funeral. They were ordered from FTD.com. I’ve since given them another chance and for a few orders, things were going well until Mother’s Day this year.

flowers

On Friday May 8th, I ordered flowers for my mother. (See above) They assured me on the website that these flowers could be delivered the same day. I received an email later stating that the flowers would be delayed a day and delivered on Sat, May 9th. No problem, as long as she gets them on Mother’s Day, it’s all good. Well, today is Monday May 11th and she still has not received her flowers.

I have sent two emails asking for a refund and tried to call but there seems to be an overwhelming customer service problem today and the wait time is very long. Ordering online is very convienent and used to work very well. You put your trust that the items you order get delivered as expected. When it fails to happen for important events like funerals and Mother’s day, then it really leaves you looking like an idiot because it seems you forgot when you didn’t.

I think I’ll be looking for a new online flower service. If you know of one, please leave a comment.
