Description
The creature is called a Mallen. They are an amphibian type creature with poor eyesight but excellent hearing and smell. They have a third arm attached to their backs that is also used when mating. The Mallen can breathe on land through their skin and also in the water with gills. Their tails are webbed and they swim very fast, on land they can run or hop. At the end of the tail there is a poisonous barb on each side. They are about the size of a turkey. On top of their head is an antenna which picks up sounds and on each side is a smaller one that is used for smell.
Diet
They are omnivorous and eat plants and berries, insects and small fish.
Special Abilities
The Mallen males are natural shaman. There are natural herbs and plants that grow only on Aquana. The Mallen Shaman know how to prepare the mixtures into medicines that can be used by many species. These skills are passed down through the tribes only to the males. It is a well guarded secret. Though they are small in size, the Mallen’s are respected because of their medicinal skills. Their tonics and medicines are widely traded throughout the star system and that provides the money and goods necessary to help them grow and prosper.
Since the Mallen’s also eat the natural plants, the male shaman also have developed another use for the 3rd arm. There is another gland that secretes a pain relieving substance. This alone makes the Mallen useful for surgeries and injuries. It is not uncommon to find a Mallen serving as an anesthesiologist during a medical procedure.
Reproduction
The adult Mallen’s usually mate for life. The females choose the male by inviting him into her home. Once that happens, they live as a couple until one of them dies. The males live approx.50 years and the females about 60. The females tend to be a little older and larger than their male partner. When they mate, the third arm intertwines and the male deposits his seed into the female through openings between the claws. The female then lays the fertilized eggs in the water inside a casing attached to the base of their swamp tree home. She lays 3-6 eggs at a time.

When the babies hatch, they will stay in the water and swim around the tree home until their legs have grown. They are totally self sufficient when born and don’t need nurturing from either parent. When the babies have grown their legs and leave the water, the females will find their own tree in which to make a home and the males will stay in the water until a female chooses him to join her.
Language
The Mallen have a simple language and Alphabet based on phonics.
Transportation
Primitive
Ritus is the primitive form of transportation. Also know as a Swamp Strider, the Mallen would use these creatures to get from one location in the swamp to another.
Space Travel
The transport ship is used to transport the Mallen to other locations in space. It is 75 meters long, about the size of a 747. The cargo ship is used to move supplies and medicines. Its length is 585 meters. The medical transport is 375 meters long and holds a maximum of 5000 patients. There are 12 decks dedicated to the hospital. Ten of the decks are open ward style and two decks have private rooms for important patients and dignitaries. There are four surgery rooms on each of the hospital decks. The medical transport is available as support to the C.A.B. and it's members.

Solar System
The Mallen live within this solar system. Their home planet is the second from the sun and is called Aquanais. They're planet has a swamp-like environment. The planet has two moons. One is yellow and the other is green. They build their homes in the base of large swamp trees. The females are the ones who make the homes inside the trees. They sleep in a nest built of leaves and twigs inside their homes.
