That’s right, it is free and was offered available starting last Friday. Not just one copy but as many as you want. This was announced by Steve Ballmer at the Consumer Electronics Show 2009 in Las Vegas with a keynote speech on the night before the show’s official launch.
The beta had been leaked onto torrents earlier but will become official now. You can download the Beta here: Windows 7 Beta
I hope that this version will be better than Vista. I’m not a big fan of Vista though I have been forced to have it on my computers. I miss the old XP Windows. I’ll be willing to give Windows 7 a chance. I’d be interested to know what you think about it if you try it out. You can always post your comments here.

Personally, I like Windows 7, but it feels a lot like Vista to me. It is a little faster and is missing a lot of bloat (half the size of a Vista install), but I didn’t go “OMGOMGOMG” because I have been using Vista for a while now.
Hmm, well, I decided to use it all day today and I’m liking it more and more. I find myself wanting not to boot back in to XP. *shrug*
Cool, thank you for the feedback. Do you have 32 bit or 64 bit Vista?
My Vista copies are 32-bit. However, I tried installing the 64-bit version of Windows 7 first, but I didn’t plan ahead very well and couldn’t find any drivers for my wireless card that would work.
