PAX – Day 1
(This entry was written by Gaming Steve member “ilikesanta“)
So I started my day across the street from the Seattle Convention Center, to sign up for the Settlers of Catan Tournament. I was there early enough that I was the first person in Line and the first person on the list. I had some time before the tournament started so went to the convention center to explore the expo hall.
Yes that’s the line to get in, it only took about 45 minutes to get through. The was a lot of things to check out.
Gears of War 2 is playable (It look a lot like GoW1, and that not necessarily a bad thing)
A mountain of Pink Godzilla’s
Look Spore! (It’s coming out next week I can wait to play it then)
It’s the Fallout Family! – Fallout looks freaking fantastic! I was watching someone play the 360 version and it looks so nice. I still think it can us some more color, apocalypse be damned, but oh well. I did notice some pop-up with some trees, but it looked like it ran smooth and it didn’t seem like that big of a deal.
Some crazy kids playing their Rock Band 2
I didn’t spend a ton of time in the Expo area but I did get my hands on some games.
Saints Row 2 – It still needs some polish and and control feel a little weird (could be because of all that GTA I’ve been playing?) overall it seems like the first one.
Resistance 2 Multi-player Demo. It looked good and there were a lot of things in the environment, but it was just ok. The guns feel to light for me, it probably didn’t help that I couldn’t hear anything.
I went back over to the table top tournament building and played some Catan. I lost out in the first round, but it was a close game and I was just happy to be playing in a tournament. After that I went to the 1up Yours live Podcast which was fun. I watched the final rounds of the Smash Brothers tournament. Then I got hungry and walked up to the Six Arms for a bite to eat.
I then went to the concert and got to see the last of the 1-ups then Freeze-Pop took the stage.
They were rockin’, but I left early so I could get home and some sleep.
They let people play Rock Band 1 until 3am. That ends my Day 1 at PAX.
Tomorrow I plan on getting a lot more hands on some games like Left 4 Dead, Mirrors Edge, Fable 2, LittleBigPlanet… and ahhh…. well I know there’s more that I wanted to play, but I’m starting to crash.
