The popular board game Ticket to Ride first came to PC about two years ago is now available on XBox Arcade. I bought a copy when it came out on PC and had the most fun playing. The game is set up like a board game. Each space on the board is a train car. You draw train cars from the pile to the left and play them on board. You can also draw “tickets” which gives you extra points for completing certain routes.
Playing the game is very similar to the PC version however you can earn achievements for completing things like the tutorial and winning an online game. You can play againt AI or play against other XBox members in a ranked game. The game play is pretty much the same. Your turn consists of either playing your train cards and claiming a route, drawing new cards (from the deck or the face up ones) or choosing a ticket card. When choosing train cards, you can choose 2 train cards or one locomotive which serves as wild card matching any other color. You start with at least two ticket cards that give you bonus points when you complete the route showed on it. You can draw more ticket cards during the game in place of taking train cards, the downside being you have to keep at least one. The plus side is you might draw a ticket card for a route you’ve already completed. One of the things I like about the XBox version, is the game tells you when you have completed tickets.
The game ends when someone plays enough train cards to have 2 or less left over. Then it goes around one more time before tallying the score. You get points for your ticket cards, the amount of trains played and if you have the longest route, you get extra points for that too. Give this game a try, it’s one of my favorites.
