Celebrity Spore

EA marketing department has sent early release copies of the Spore Creature Creator to some celebrities and press sites. According to Kotaku.com, who received a copy, they plan to have an internet voting contest to see who’s creature is the best among the 50 people. We know that Kevin Rose from Digg has a copy, he’s been making creatures already and posting them to the Sporepedia.

The rumor is that the celebrities include Stan Lee and David Byrne. The members of the Gaming Steve community have been watching the Sporepedia page since we discovered it 3 days ago and have been saving the creatures that Maxis has uploaded. We noticed that they have since removed some from the site like Mr. Hankey so those could be considered “retired” and rare. We have the .png files so we can still put them in our game. I feel like I’m collecting beanie babies again.

We are disappointed that our own Stephen Glicker did not receive an advance copy of the editor. He was one of the first to break the Spore news over 3 years ago in a podcast and the members of his forum have been waiting patiently for the game for just as long. I think he should have received one of the first copies off the press and been in their contest. It’s disappointing to me that he was left out. I suppose in 5 days, we’ll all have our copies anyway, but for now we just get to watch others have fun.
