I can finally talk about some exciting news. About two weeks ago I was contacted by Maxis. They were interested in using a creature I made called the Mallen on the Spore website and in the newsletter. This creature was made and posted on the Gaming Steve Forum along with many other creatures inspired by Spore. We would a keep adding information to our threads and sometimes use them in RP’s.
“We are interested in publishing a few of the coolest fan art creations on our newsletter and website, and I’d like to make sure that yours gets posted. “

In order to participate I had to sign a release form allowing them to use my creature in any way they wish to advertise for Spore. With much excitement I signed my release form, faxed it over and then began the wait. We weren’t allowed to talk about the upcoming feature that was to go on the website until now. The Spore website features a picture of my drawing and the creature created in Spore by one of the Spore Artists.
Recreated by Spore Artist Kate Compton
“We decided to see how well we could recreate your idea in our creature
editor. Maxis artist Kate Compton modeled it and had this to say about
“Since it’s amphibious, I gave it dry and porous skin texture like a
newt’s, which will serve it well on land and in the shallows.””
They even had NASA’s Astrobiology Institute evaluate my creature idea.
“The gills indicate Mallen likely doesn’t breathe above the water line.
The specialized dangling pincer could mean it is an ambush predator.”
There are other creatures from Gaming Steve members, the Vvukkrauur created by Oviraptor, the Naucean by Hydromancerx and the Mentripod by Petreak, the Flaaarg by Wydraz and the Swiftick by mason19987.
You can find all the creatures here: Screenshots Congratulations to everyone on the creature features!!
