A change of plans and parks. Today started out with shopping at Downtown Disney at the Christmas shop and World of Disney. One of the nice things about shopping here is you can have everything you buy sent to your hotel and it arrives the next day for pickup.
Lunch was at the Kona in the Polynesian Resort. One of the two original hotels when Disney World was built. All the resorts are decorated for the holidays and this resort had a Hawaiian theme.
The hallway and Restaurant was lined with unique Gingerbread houses.
After lunch it was closer to go to Magic Kingdom than to Animal Kingdom so we hopped on the monorail and made our way to the park. Animal Kingdom will be Thursday morning and MGM tomorrow afternoon.
This is the front entrance of Magic Kingdom. The train in the picture will take you all the way around the park.
A walk down Main Street with a view of Cinderella Castle.
Our first ride was Pirates of the Caribbean. This ride was refurbished this year to add characters from the movie like Capt. Jack Sparrow. Apparently Johnny Depp was there for the re-opening of the ride and couldn’t believe how realistic his character looked inside the ride. They had the facial expression down pat.
Next attraction was the Haunted Mansion, also refurbished this year. A few new things added and some of the old things like the dinner scene was refreshed. One new item was some portraits of a wedding couple and the man’s head kept disappearing, then the woman in the wedding dress was holding an axe.
Next stop was “It’s a Small World”
Dolls representing different countries singing and dancing as we floated by in our boat.
Last ride of the night was Peter Pan. You sit in flying ships and float over scenes from the movie.
It was now dark and time to leave the park and head to dinner at the California Grill at the top floor of the Contemporary Hotel. From the restaurant we were able to have a great view of the fireworks after dinner. If you ever go there, look for the 5 legged goat at the monorail station.
Tomorrow: Magic Kingdom again and MGM
