I forgot last week to update, well.. I didn’t forget but I was in Las Vegas and busy with poor internet. We were there for the Vegas UnCork’d food event. Lots of great food by great chefs like Mario Beteli. I also played some “games”. I’m always excited to see the new slot machines and after a day or two I usually find the one that interests me the most and is the most fun. Last time it was Lord of the Rings. This time it was Willy Wonka. Yep they made a slot machine from the old Willy Wonka movie including video clips of Gene Wilder and Oompa Loompas. It was fun with wonderful little bonus events and sometimes pretty good pay outs for a penny slot machine. Check it out if you go there. Beware though, you’ll come home with the songs stuck in your head and the urge to watch the movie.
On the game front I’ve started a new series with the game Don’t Stave. That was the winner of my straw poll. I decided to record while playing for the first time It’s a fun game and I’ve unlocked one character so far. My best play so far is 7 days alive with Wilson.
I started playing Age of Mythology this week. An extended version of an older RTS game that is still fun to play. Pick a God and build your empire. I won my first single player game (on easy) by spawning a Titan and crushing everyone. It was great!
On the Mpire minecraft server we are planning to kill the Dragon this weekend. Hoping for a good turn out to make it a nice group event. More videos on the UnNamed will be coming soon. There will be a few more episodes of Starbound with Friends then it will go on hiatus until there are more game updates. Kind of sad to see it end as I’ve really enjoyed that series.
Have a great weekend!!
Oh my , it’s May already!!
This week I left my dad in Austin, (in good hands by the way, my step brother and his wife came to town) and ventured up to Dallas where I’m now with my mom. Now that I’m here I can pull out the gaming laptop and I’ve been able to play some games and do some recording. It surprised me how much I’ve missed it. Oh and dad is doing very well, taking it easy and healing nicely.
Last weekend I had my first twitter game giveaway and it was so much fun. Since I couldn’t record I felt helpless and this was a nice way to interact and have fun. I gave away 3 games over the weekend, one each day by twitter and one on Tuesday via YouTube. I look forward to doing that again soon.
This week I played some Starbound and Sims3. I started a new character last night, a “LadyM” sim and I’m going to continue a story with her as the main character. I’m ditching the twin brothers for now, maybe in the future but this is a good place to start a new series.
I also did my first straw poll. There are so many games I’d like to play and record so I asked for a vote on what you, the viewer would like to see and I was surprised by the answer. The game Don’t Starve is in the lead. If you haven’t voted yet, here is the link: What game should I LP? Tell me what you think, it’ll give me a good direction on where to go from here and keep things fresh.
So where am I going from here? Well, next week on Wed, I’m going to Vegas baby!! I’ll be traveling with my mom and a few relatives and spending about 5 days in Las Vegas. Gaming of another sort and tons of awesome food. Hope you all have a great weekend!!!
The answer is: I am!
There I said it finally. I am 55 and I am a grandmother of 5, so many 5’s. I made this confession on twitter this week during a conversation with some other older gamers. It felt natural and good to finally say it. I’ve been wanting to be more authentic to myself and I want to be able to talk about things like my grandkids. So yes, I am 55, I am a gamer, an original gamer who played pong in her living room while skipping work because it was so addictive at the time. I find that I am the oldest person in most groups and I’m hoping to find others who are also in their 50’s. I can’t be the only one. Age is only a number, it does not define who we are and what we are capable of doing. I’ve seen and done a lot in my life and I hope to share some of my experiences with others.
So this week has not had much gaming. My father was released from the hospital on Sunday and we returned to his house near Austin on Monday. I’m the caregiver at the moment for him and his wife. I’m playing some easy going games like Hearthstone and FTL this week but nothing I can record. Both of these games can be found on the iPad too. I find that I’m missing the recordings more than I thought I would. I’ve been considering a few vlogs and some real life video in the meantime. Check out the cute horse and foal video I put up this week. These horses belong to my sister.
I pre-ordered Wildstar and look forward to playing it in beta soon. I’m also pre-ordering Evolve, a multiplayer co-op game for 5 people. I plan to do a game giveaway this week so look for that.
Here’s a little bonus for you, this is me with the five little people in my life (Three boys, two girls) my loves, my angels!!
Have a great weekend ~ LadyM
It’s Friday and Easter is coming!!
Last week I was at PAX East and I didn’t post a blog, I thought about it but in the end I was tired and forgetful. Now I’m getting back on schedule. It’s been a busy week for me as usual. I arrived in Boston on Thursday night and spent Friday, Sat and Sun at the PAX convention.
Friday night I was invited to the Twitch YouTube content party and I got a lovely t-shirt with Godiva Gaming on the back. That is the ladies group I’m a part of. I met up with Blue, Phendran and Aureylian from the group also. Lovely ladies!! I also waited over two hours to see the demo of Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. So excited for that game, it will take place on the moon and have 4 new characters. I was told this information during my Gearbox tour but I signed an NDA and couldn’t talk about it.
On Saturday I went to the Mindcrack panel, bought a complete set of Cards Against Humanity, walked the expo floor, tried the expansion of “Don’t Starve” then attended a community party hosted by 2K games. I won a poster that I gave away because I couldn’t carry it on an airplane.
Sunday was the Gearbox panel and as promised I got VIP seats which meant a closer seat and early seating. It was fun as always and generous. We all got a free copy of the new game “The Pre-Sequel” coming soon. Not a DLC as given in the past but a FULL game. The other game to watch is one called Evolve. It’s designed by those who made Left 4 Dead and it takes 5 players, 4 as survivors and 1 as the monster. It’s a PvP game and the line was 4 hours to play. I didn’t get to try it but I watched the gameplay and it looks amazing. People were really buzzing about it. The last game I’m excited about is Civilization: Beyond Earth.
On Monday I took a flight from Boston to Houston where my dad had surgery on Tuesday. He is doing well and recovering but I’m limited in my game play right now. Maybe now is a good time to update this blog and give it a new look. Dad will be fine, later I will move on to Dallas to check on mom and end up in Las Vegas playing bigger games. My weekly blog should be back on track and I’m hoping to add more posts soon.
Have a great Easter weekend!!
I’ve been so happy to know that people are actually reading this blog and liking it. Thank you for the feedback. I’ve also been encouraged to keep a personal touch to it and share more about myself. The post I made on April 1st is of course a joke. I hate spinach and the color pink, well hate is a strong word, I dislike strongly. It was such a fun day, Minecraft changed all our characters to Villagers and added villager sounds to the game. I downloaded the mod pack so I can play with it in the future.
I spent more time playing Diablo III, I am the Lone Crusader who is now a level 18. It’s really a fun game, wish I’d tried it sooner. It reminds me a lot of Dante’s Inferno but not on such a grand scale. If you’ve never played DI, you should try it.
I got the best comment on my Starbound Series : “Great series! I saw your post on Chucklefish Forums and did not regret clicking on your channel link: I watched the whole Starbound playlist, subbed, and now can’t wait to see the next episodes. Good job LadyM :)” This was the best feedback I could ever receive and makes me so happy and want to continue our series.
The Pixelmon series is winding down, the server will change to add more mods and I’m not playing it enough to keep posting videos however I’ll keep playing now and then and possibly continue a series but that’s very doubtful. I’m not saying never because sometimes we change our minds.
Recording and posting videos will be slowing down later this month, my father is having surgery on April 15th and I am going to Texas to help take care of him and his wife who is in early stages of dementia. After that I’ll be spending some time with my Mom in Dallas and possibly going to Las Vegas so traveling will be happening too. I am taking my gaming laptop so I can continue to play and record but it may not be as frequent. Games can be our escape from a reality we don’t want to face that day but eventually we have to face the real world and the things the day brings. Some happy, some sad.. I hope your reality is very happy and so is your weekend!
In an effort to get to get closer to the community, I thought I’d share a few fun facts about myself. Maybe the top ten.
10. I was born in the wagon of a traveling show, my mama used to dance for the money they’d throw.
9. I went to an all boys school growing up. I had to cut my hair short and wear pants. It went well until gym class started.
8. At the age of 12 I competed in a rodeo and got the winning ride on a really tough bull named Crackerjack.
7. I was bitten by a shark swimming in the ocean and lost my left foot. I have a wooden replacement, it’s a short peg.
6. I love cooked spinach!
5. I’ve been married 5 times and they all seemed to die after eating my blueberry pie. Think it’s related?
4. I drive a Lamborghini. Those husbands had great life insurance.
3. My favorite color is pink.
2. My current job is sorting baby chicks by gender. It’s very busy this time of year.
1. The #1 thing to know about me is I’m extremely serious and I hate jokes. 😛
Here it is Friday again. Time to update from the week.
This week I got to play a new game by Dragnoz called SnowQuake. It’s in beta and it’s so much fun. If you get a chance to play, do it. He’s having a contest to add one more map so it will continue to change.
Starbound is going strong. We recorded last night and wow, an unexpected thing happened that changed the direction of our story. Look for that in about a week. New episodes on Wed and Sat.
I’m continuing my Shoe House on the UnNamed Server. Hopefully a video next week.
I played some Pixelmon but didn’t record. Will do an update video soon. I also played some Hearthstone for fun. It’s good to play just for fun and not always for recording. I’m ready to let the Minecraft series slow down to allow time for other things. Maybe release update videos every other week or monthly.
I will be doing more traveling next month so less recording. My dad is having surgery in April so I will be helping him recover. Maybe I can do some meet ups with anyone from the Houston or Austin area.
Have a great weekend!! Game on!
This has been a busy week. The Lucky Ladies UHC is releasing this week with highlights of the game played on Sunday, March 16th. Check it out!! On Tuesday I recorded a play date with MKtheWorst and it released on Thursday. That was fun, we played some TNT Tag. On Thursdays we recorded Starbound and they are released on Wed and Sat. Check out the series, we have a great time RP’ing the characters. I had to skip the UnNamed this week, too many videos and too much to do. I’m finding a need for balance again. I may change the LadyMpire videos to every other week along with the Pixel Guild and do more highlights of both. I need some time to play other games for fun. I’ll think about this and work on my new scheduling next week.
The other thing that happened this week was my biannual check up for post cancer treatment. In July of 2012 I had two uterine tumors. They were removed surgically along with my female parts. A full hysterectomy along with 25 lymph nodes. The surgery got all the cancer and I did not need chemo and radiation. I was very lucky, I continue to count my blessings each and every day. I am able to live most days without thinking much about it but every six months I go to the Cancer Center, have my CT scan and XRay and see the Cancer doctor and hope for the best. So far, I’m doing great!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
