Spore update from Caryl Shaw

Received this by email today regarding the online authentication for the game. Much controversy has been brewing at the Gaming Steve Forums over this issue with many people threatening to boycott the game.

Hey Spore Fans -

We wanted to let you know that we’ve been hearing your concerns about
the online authentication mentioned earlier this week.  I didn’t want to
head into the weekend without getting back to you with some information
about how Spore is planning on using this new system.

A few things we wanted you to know:

– We authenticate your game online when you install and launch it the
first time.
– We’ll re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloads
new content or a patch for their game.
– The new system means you don’t have to play with the disc in your
computer. And if you are like me, always losing discs, this will be a
huge benefit.
– You’ll still be able to install and play on multiple computers.
– You can play offline.

We do hope that players will play online - sharing creatures, buildings
and vehicles with other players is something that is unique to Spore and
one of the coolest features of the game. Every day, when I play the
Creature Stage, I get to see wacky and awesome new creatures from my
Buddies on the team coming over the hill at me and I can’t wait to see
what happens when our creative, passionate community starts sharing
their creations.

I’d love to write more - but I need to get back to work.  We’ve got a
game to finish.  :-)

-caryl

Carnival Pride

 pride

I’m back from the cruise. Sorry I couldn’t update while I was gone but internet was expensive plus the connection wasn’t good and I couldn’t up load photos. So, I’ll just tell you about my trip now. I’ll spread it out over a few days since I have a lot of photos and a lot to tell.

Cruise Week

I’m in California boarding a cruise ship today headed to the Mexico. Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. I plan to blog the trip if I can get internet to work on the ship. So keep checking back for updates.

My Mallen made the Spore Website

The Mallen

I can finally talk about some exciting news. About two weeks ago I was contacted by Maxis. They were interested in using a creature I made called the Mallen on the Spore website and in the newsletter. This creature was made and posted on the Gaming Steve Forum along with many other creatures inspired by Spore. We would a keep adding information to our threads and sometimes use them in RP’s.

“We are interested in publishing a few of the coolest fan art creations on our newsletter and website, and I’d like to make sure that yours gets posted. “

Will Windows XP really die?

xp

Maybe not. According to News Blog, Windows XP might be around longer than the June deadline if people still want it.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the company could re-evaluate its plans to phase out Windows XP by June 30, if customers demand that it stick around. So far, they have not.

“XP will hit an end-of-life. We have announced one. If customer feedback varies, we can always wake up smarter, but right now, we have a plan for end-of-life for new XP shipments,” Ballmer said during a Thursday news conference in Belgium, according to Reuters.

Big-name computer makers are still scheduled to have to stop selling models with Windows XP installed by the end of June. Mainstream technical support will continue to be available for Windows XP through April 2009, and more limited support will continue through April 2014.

I for one hope that it sticks around for awhile longer. At least until they can come out with a better operating system than Vista. XP was good, why couldn’t it just be tweaked and not totally changed. Maybe one day they’ll listen and give the people what they want.

Meatloaf and Tiffany in Paradise

Commerical for AT&T Go Phone. Don’t really care about the phone but I like the commercial.

Ever eat Pomegranate ice cream?

bliss

It’s actually really good. I recently tried the Sheer Bliss Pomegranate Bar. Pomegranate ice cream dipped in rich dark chocolate. There were 3 in the box and it was the first time I’d seen it in my local grocery store. Each bar is 250 calories and all natural with no preservatives. A healthier choice and tasty too. If you see it, try it.

Writers wanted

writers

I’d like to have a few more writers on this site. I find it hard to update daily and it’s good to have fresh views from other people. I would like people who can write about games, computers, tech gadgets and other interesting items. Give a review and your thoughts on the subject. Game reviews get the most hits. We are getting more traffic here every month and EA is now including us in their fan site updates so expect more Spore information. This could be a good stepping stone for someone who wants a place to write. There is no payment compensation and no benefits other than you get to write for the site and might be noticed. Serious inquiries only please. Just contact me here or on Gaming Steve forum.

The Million-dollar cookie

cookie

Pillsbury had it’s annual bake off contest and the winner was Double Delight Peanut Butter Cookies created by Carolyn Gurtz of Gaithersburg, Maryland. She won one million dollars after entering for the 15th time. Comments on other blogs are critical because they don’t consider this a real recipe since it uses pre-made peanut butter cookie dough. It looks pretty good to me and rather easy to make, I’ll probably try it. Congrats to Carolyn and here is the recipe after the jump.
